Ocean Breeze Energy GmbH & Co. KG has awarded the independent service provider a comprehensive service contract. This includes maintenance and troubleshooting of the wind turbines as well as associated technical support. From September 2027, the following services will be added: remote monitoring, Marine Coordination Centre/Offshore Control Centre (MCC/OCC), grid management and 24/7 alarm handling for all wind turbines. Deutsche Windtechnik prevailed thanks to a tailored, cost-optimised proposal, strong technical competence and experience with both turbine types, as well as many years of experience at the alpha ventus offshore wind farm. Both companies are committed to a partnership approach. Ocean Breeze Energy will retain design responsibility, known as third-level management.
Experienced partner for a new era
Germany's first offshore wind farm, alpha ventus, a key test field for the development of offshore wind energy, enters a new era under Ocean Breeze Energy as its new owner. Continued operation of the pioneering wind farm has been confirmed. With the award of this service contract, Ocean Breeze Energy is placing its trust in Deutsche Windtechnik’s proven expertise. The company knows the wind farm well from years of collaboration: since 2017, it has been responsible for the basic maintenance of the six Senvion 5M turbines, followed by the six AREVA Multibrid (M5000) turbines in early 2020; both contracts expired at the end of 2024. Today, Deutsche Windtechnik is a leading independent service provider for both turbine types with comprehensive expertise in numerous European onshore and offshore projects.
Combined technical competence as a key success factor
The combination of technical expertise and a partnership approach played a crucial role in the decision to award the contract to Deutsche Windtechnik.
Jean Huby, CEO of Ocean Breeze Energy: "We are looking forward to working in partnership with Deutsche Windtechnik. With our OEM-level technology competence and an experienced partner such as Deutsche Windtechnik, we want to use the existing infrastructure to the full and continue generating North Sea power and making a positive contribution to the energy transition and European net zero agenda."
Achim Berge Olsen, CEO of Deutsche Windtechnik Offshore und Consulting: "Deutsche Windtechnik has supported the alpha ventus project in many ways over the years. We are therefore particularly pleased to demonstrate our comprehensive competence for both turbine types used – AREVA Multibrid and Senvion – under the new shareholder. Through our enhanced presence at the service location in Borkum, from where we already operate two projects, we are able to respond quickly on site."
Borkum offshore cluster gains further importance
A strategic advantage of this collaboration: Deutsche Windtechnik is systematically expanding its presence in the Borkum offshore cluster. With contracts for Riffgat OWF and now also alpha ventus, two significant projects are being added to the existing Trianel Wind Farm Borkum I. From the island of Borkum, the company now operates three offshore wind farms – a configuration that enables considerable synergies. Shared resources and well-established on-site expertise enable short troubleshooting response times, efficient logistics, and optimal deployment planning for service teams. The growing Borkum portfolio creates ideal conditions for reliable and cost-efficient service.
